Evidence has emerged to prove that the game of Rugby League was in the thoughts of Sydney football men at least five years before previously believed.
The fascinating revelation that `Rugby League talk’ was in the air as early as 1902 – even though the game did not kick off in Sydney until April 1908 - is just one of the revelations to emerge from the game’s official history, A Centenary of Rugby League, 1908-2008.
The following are edited excerpts from this outstanding history compiled for the game’s Centenary by leading Rugby League historians David Middleton and Ian Heads.
